FAQ

Partners

What does FCS stand for?

We are frequently asked this. And there have been various terms suggested for the acronym. Financial Card Services, Future Card Services, First-class Card Services, First Class Savings, Facilitating Clever Students, are just a few. However, the FCS branding exists, due to the Premier Card being an extended service provided by First Class Support.

How do you reach up to 75,000 new students a year?

We literally deal with thousands of higher education students through First Class Support each year. On top of that, we market to all local education institutions including secondary schools, 6th forms and colleges, as well as universities. We also sponsor landmarks close to universities, such as North Cross roundabout in Plymouth. This provides 24/7 advertising in the heart of student footfall. In addition, we have our flyers and marketing in student halls and we hand-drop flyers to known privately rented student accommodation, as well as monthly street promotion.

How do you expose your partners to over 100,000 local consumers?

Alone, the North Cross roundabout sponsorship, according to independent research will be seen by approximately 89,000 people each year. This, accompanied by our other active promotions including local publication advertisements and social media campaigns we will give exposure, to potentially, well over 100,000 local people.

How will you help your business partners open their doors to all students (FE and HE)?

Unlike other student cards we market the product/service to FE students as well as those in higher education. We routinely attend education open days and fresher fairs at local institutions, to promote the card and our business partners.

How can partners directly notify all card holders of their latest promotions?

With new data protection regulations (GDPR) firmly in place, we must respect the privacy of all our card holders. However, when consent is given for us to contact them, a monthly email will be sent to advise them of all the latest discounts, offers and promotions from our partners. However, In 2019 an app will be launched that will be able to give real-time information to all electronic card holders.

Advertising within FCM (First Class Magazine), what is the size of the magazine, how many copies are printed, where are they distributed?

FCM is launching in 2018 and will be initially covering the PL post code. There will be 10,000 colour A5 magazines in circulation (quarterly to begin with). Students and graduates will be writing articles and art students will be assisting with the cover design. All Premier Card business partners will receive 25% off all advertising within the magazine.

How do FCS Premier Card Partners help support disabled students and charities?

All disabled students receive a free Premier Card, which is covered by the partnership subscription. We also dedicate a percentage of our revenue each year to help raise awareness of disabilities within academia, as well as donating to a local charity each year.

Is it only students that can apply for an FCS Premier Card?

No, the card is also available to graduates, academics and FCS support staff. Fully subscribed FCS business partners will also receive a card to use at all listed business partner’s outlets.

How do I tell if the card that is being used, is in the possession of the correct/actual card holder?

All cards have a one year expiry and unique numbering on them. Business partners are encouraged to challenge any card holders if they are in doubt of the authenticity of the card or card holder. Business partners can also call Premier Card staff on 01752 358641 to authenticate any cards or card holders.

Can I really use my FCS Premier Card to receive discount at other business partner’s businesses?

Short answer, Yes! We believe that the Premier Card should connect students AND businesses together. We believe that this protocol supports our premise. However, this is dependent on the partnership package you have chosen.

I received a free listing as part of a promotion, can I take advantage of all the benefits a fully paid business partner is entitled to?

No, businesses that receive a free listing are only entitled to appear on our website and will not receive the full promotion package as listed on the ‘Become a Business Partner’ page.

I already have an NUS card, is there any point buying an FCS Premier Card?

Yes, definitely! We engage personally with hundreds of local businesses that are not officially affiliated with NUS. We have registered businesses that exclusively provide discount to FCS Premier Card holders, thereby providing a discount that is unobtainable elsewhere. Moreover, we specifically provide students with the discounts that they are looking for in the town/city they are studying by listening to their requests. Lastly, the FCS Premier Card is cheaper than NUS and is free for disabled HE students.

I have just received my acceptance letter to college, can I still purchase a card?

We can only provide students that are enrolled on a post-compulsory course of education. However, you can pre-order your card and we will send your card to you as soon as you have enrolled.

Can I write an article for FCM?

Yes! FCM is a publication that is written by students and graduates, for students and graduates. Please call 01752 358641 or email  to discuss this in more detail.

I would like to receive discount a certain store that doesn’t offer it, can you contact them?

Yes, definitely! We actively listen to what the student population wants. We then put this to local businesses and encourage them to become an FCS partner due to genuine student requests. Most businesses embrace this and shortly offer our card holders discount.

How will I know when other businesses become partners, so I can use my card there?

We encourage all students to keep visiting the site and our social media pages for updates. We will also email card holders to notify them of all new business partners.

Can I give my card to someone else to use?

Unfortunately, not. All cards must only be used by the registered card holder. The card holder must be prepared to provide addition information to business partners should they request authenticity that you are a valid card holder. This might be in the form of additional ID, student admission card or details of their course and place of study.
